Winter 2015 Season
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:21:16 PM »
Hello all,

After some discussion, the 5th edition playtest will be in Jan-Feb followed by a the Plateau campaign in Mar-Apr.

I will use this thread to discuss the playtest in the coming months.

Have you given any thought to what level you're going to start us for the play test?

I have thought about it, I have not reached a conclusion.  I am torn between the value of seeing the entire progression and starting at 1st vs the value of seeing more elements of the classes in play.  Thoughts?

Start them at first level and let us try to get them to a comfortable level by the end of the play test.  That way, we can see how the new system plays out.  The challenge will be balancing the encounters so that can happen

I don't specifically have a preference, but if pressed, I'd say I'm inclined to agree with Valdis.  We should get to know the mechanics and enjoy the progression of the game.  Maybe we can start off at 1st, then progress a level per week until we finish the play test.  That would put us at about 6th level or so once we finish.  That'll give us a comfortable feel for low level gaming with the new system.

I agree. Trying to make up a higher level character would mean trying to learn the rules before doing the play test.

My current plan will be for you to get one level per session, and to do four sessions.

The format will be adventure module, whether its one big one, or four little ones, or two, is to be determined.

Another note for the playtest.  I have changed my mind and will be announcing what is going to be played.  This is because I want as many races and classes represented as possible.

So far the races taken are: Night Elf, Human, and Nipit

The classes taken are: Rogue, Bard, Sorcerer, and Warlock

An additional note, these characters will almost certainly not be played after the playtest, although their story (assuming they succeed) will be part of the history of the moon.

Think about what type of deity you would worship, as I don't want to have to build 40 domains.  I realize a list would be helpful in doing that so pick from the following:

Habastly
Celetal
Tyrogatore
Gruweas
Tommimao
Arsur'anyodel
Compture
Mya

Note that are not all of the deities, but for a variety of reasons, those are the choices you have.

Keep in mind, the playtest is part 2 of making history, which means it takes place between the creation of the moon and 786.
